Meghalaya Administration
The State Government of Meghalaya works on the same lines as the other states of the country. The state follows a unicameral system of government i.e. it has only one house – the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) which consists of 60 members.

Meghalaya Administration has 1 seat in Rajya Sabha- the upper house of Parliament and 2 seats in Lok Sabha – the lower house of Parliament. The head of the state is the Governor. He or she is appointed by the President of India. The Governor's post is largely ceremonial. The Chief Minister is the head of government and is conferred with most of the executive powers.
The state of
Meghalaya has 11 districts and they are again divided into Blocks and subdivisions. there are total of 39 blocks and 4 subdivisions in Meghalaya. There are 5,629 villages in Meghalaya. The state also has 2
parliament constituencies. The Chief Minister of the state is headed by his council of ministers with independent power. The beautiful Meghalaya state is headed by the Governor. The Chief
Minister heads the Cabinet Ministers who assist the Governor in the

is unicameral in nature. In the year 1972 the assembly was constituted
as a directly elected body. The assembly consists of 60 members.
Meghalaya has a parliamentary system of Government. The Assembly
consists of fifteen committees.
Presently the assembly consists
of 55 reserved Legislative Assembly seats and 5 unreserved Legislative
Assembly seats. Normally the tenure of assembly is five years. The
assembly is the central law making body of Meghalaya.

Government in Meghalaya
The government of Meghalaya like all other states of India is headed by the governor. The executive powers are controlled by the Chief Minister along with his Council of Ministers.
The political structure of Meghalaya state is headed by the Governor. The Chief Minister along with his Council of Ministers assists the Governor in the functioning of the state. The Chief Minister is the head of the Council of Ministers and they are the members of the Meghalaya Assembly.
Governor of Meghalaya
The present Governor of the state of Meghalaya is
Satyapal Malik. He is an Indian politician hailing from Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh. He was the 18th Governor of Goa and was also the Ultimate Governor of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. It was during his tenure that the constitutional decision to abrogate Article 370, which gave special status to J&K, was taken on 5 August 2019.

Chief Minister of Meghalaya
Conrad Sangma, is the current chief Minister of the state of Meghalaya. He is the current Chief Minister of Meghalaya. Son of former Chief Minister Purno Sangma, he is the 12th CM of Meghalaya. Congad was born on 27 January 1978. Conrad has bachelor's degree in business administration in entrepreneurial management from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined active politics in 1990s, as the campaign manager for his father, for the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Judiciary of Meghalaya
Previously, the
Gauhati High Court, situated at
Guwahati was the highest judicial source of Meghalaya. The Guwahati High
Court had a Shillong Bench who were responsible of any cases arising in
the state of Meghalaya.
The then Union Minister of Law and
Justice Shri. Arun Jaitely, on 8th March, 2002, laid the foundation
stone for the New High Court Building in Shillong at the Hermitage
compound. The court started functioning from the new building from 2nd
March, 2010. The
High Court of Meghalaya was formed on March 23rd, 2013 and was inaugurated on the March 25th, 2013.
